The Damage Waiver (DW) is an optional protection that reduces or eliminates your financial responsibility for damage to the rental vehicle, subject to the terms below. By accepting or declining the Damage Waiver, you acknowledge that you have read and understand these conditions.

1. What the Damage Waiver Covers

If purchased, the Damage Waiver may protect you against financial liability for:

  • Collisions
  • Accidental damage
  • Vandalism (excluding theft of personal items)
  • Weather-related damage (wind, hail, falling debris)
  • Damage to exterior vehicle components
  • Minor dents and scratches not resulting from misuse

Coverage applies only up to the vehicle’s applicable damage limit specified in your rental agreement.

2. What the Damage Waiver Does NOT Cover

The Damage Waiver does not cover:

2.1 Unauthorized or Prohibited Use

Damage resulting from:

  • Driving by an unauthorized driver
  • Off-road use
  • Racing, stunts, or reckless driving
  • Illegal activities
  • Using the vehicle for ride-sharing, delivery, or commercial passenger transport
  • Towing or pushing another vehicle

2.2 Negligence or Unsafe Operation

  • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Failure to secure the vehicle (doors unlocked, keys left inside)
  • Failure to follow traffic laws or road signs
  • Use of incorrect fuel
  • Damage caused by ignoring warnings, noises, or mechanical issues

2.3 Specific Damage Categories

  • Interior upholstery, dashboard, or cabin damage
  • Smoking or vaping damage
  • Burn marks, stains, or excessive dirt
  • Windshield chips or cracks (unless optional glass coverage is purchased)
  • Tire damage or blowouts (unless tire coverage is purchased)
  • Undercarriage or roof damage
  • Loss of keys or key fobs

2.4 Total Loss or Theft

Unless explicitly stated, the Damage Waiver does not cover:

  • Vehicle theft
  • Total loss due to theft
    (Separate Theft Protection is required.)

3. Renter Responsibilities Under the Damage Waiver

Even with DW, you must:

  • Report all damage to Qathet Rentals immediately
  • Complete an incident/accident form
  • Cooperate with insurance providers or adjusters
  • Provide a police report for any collision, theft, or vandalism

Failure to follow reporting requirements may void the waiver.

4. Damage Waiver Limits

  • Coverage applies up to the deductible limit specified in your rental agreement.
  • Damage above that amount may remain your responsibility.
  • Damage Waiver is not insurance; it is a contractual waiver of financial liability.

5. Deductible Options

Customers may be offered multiple deductible levels:

  • Standard deductible (included or optional)
  • Reduced deductible (extra fee)
  • Zero-deductible waiver (premium option)

Deductible amounts and fees vary by vehicle class.

6. Additional Optional Protections

Depending on availability, renters may also purchase:

  • Tire & Wheel Protection
  • Glass & Windshield Coverage
  • Roadside Protection
  • Theft Protection
  • Personal Effects Coverage

These optional protections are separate from the Damage Waiver.

7. Declining the Damage Waiver

If you decline DW:

  • You are fully responsible for all damage to the rental vehicle
  • Charges may include repair costs, loss of use, towing, administrative fees, and diminished value
  • Personal auto insurance or credit card coverage may apply, but it is your responsibility to verify coverage

Qathet Rentals is not responsible for third-party coverage denials.

8. Right to Void the Damage Waiver

Qathet Rentals may void the DW if:

  • You misrepresent information at rental time
  • Damage results from prohibited uses
  • You fail to provide required documentation (police report, incident report)
  • The vehicle is transported or operated outside approved areas or provinces

9. Acknowledgment

By signing the rental agreement, you confirm that:

  • You have been offered the Damage Waiver
  • You understand what is and is not covered
  • You accept or decline coverage voluntarily
  • You are responsible for all exclusions and applicable deductibles
